Caring for the Whole Student

Mental health challenges among college students are well-documented, but commuter students face distinct struggles—balancing academic pressures, part-time jobs, long commutes, and home responsibilities with little access to on-campus support.

Hunter Hillel is committed to supporting the well-being of every student we encounter. Through a holistic approach rooted in case management and relationship building over time, we provide essential resources. At Hillel any student can access mental health support, access to nourishing kosher food, and a welcoming community where students can thrive—emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

You’re Not Alone: Mental Health & Wellness at Hunter Hillel

Hunter Hillel is more than just a student center—it’s a place where students can find emotional and mental health support when they need it most. We recognize the challenges Jewish students face, from everyday stress to moments of crisis, and we are committed to providing a safe, supportive environment where they can turn for guidance, connection, and healing.

Standing Together in Times of Crisis

In the wake of October 7th, Hunter Hillel immediately opened its doors to offer communal support and space for students to process grief and loss together.

  • We offer support tailored to Jewish students through referrals and monetary support to pay for therapy.

  • Creating room for processing emotions, building resilience, and navigating difficult times together.

  • Through meditation, yoga, and Jewish texts we work together to promote emotional health in our students through a Jewish lens

  • Providing a welcoming environment for students to express themselves and find strength in community. We’re here for tears of joy, tears of sadness, and everything in between.

Fighting Food Insecurity

No student should have to choose between meals and their education. Food insecurity is a growing crisis among CUNY students, with many struggling to afford nutritious, kosher meals while balancing academics and other responsibilities.

At Hunter Hillel, we are committed to ensuring that every Jewish student has access to fresh, kosher food through our Digital Kosher Food Pantry, made possible in partnership with Met Council, the largest Jewish charity dedicated to fighting poverty. Together, we provide a confidential, stigma-free way for students to get the nourishment they need to thrive.

How It Works:

1️⃣ Students submit a confidential request.

2️⃣ They receive fresh, kosher food through an easy pickup system.

3️⃣ Hunter Hillel ensures ongoing food security through partnerships and community support.

No Student Left Behind

“When I was struggling, I found not just resources, but people who truly cared. The support I received—whether through counseling or just having a warm meal—gave me the strength to keep going.”
