Jewish Learning That Lasts a Lifetime
At Hunter Hillel, Jewish education isn’t just about knowledge—it’s about building a meaningful, lasting connection to Jewish life.
Through dynamic learning experiences, students explore Jewish values, traditions, and texts in a way that feels relevant, engaging, and empowering.
Whether through fellowship programs, immersive discussions, or hands-on leadership in Jewish rituals, students develop the tools to carry their Judaism forward—on campus and beyond.
The Hunter Hillel Jewish Learning Model
From foundational learning cohorts to text-based study and peer-led initiatives, we provide a structured pathway for students to engage with Jewish tradition in ways that are meaningful, relevant, and lasting.
Through mentorship, immersive learning, and leadership development, we empower students to try new things and create uniquely meaningful Jewish experiences. Hunter Hillel ensures that Jewish students not only participate in learning—but also shape the future of Jewish life in New York City and beyond.
-
Jewish Learning Fellowship (JLF) and other introductory programs provide a space for students to explore Jewish identity, values, and traditions in a welcoming and discussion-based environment. These sessions are designed to make Jewish learning accessible, meaningful, and engaging.
-
For students ready to take the next step, Hunter Hillel offers opportunities to dive into text-based study, including Talmud Chaburah, Torah study, and deep discussions on Jewish philosophy. These experiences help students develop their own interpretations and perspectives while connecting to centuries of Jewish wisdom.
-
Learning isn’t just about absorbing knowledge—it’s about putting it into action. Students are encouraged to take on leadership roles, such as leading Shabbat gatherings, Megillah readings, and even curating their own Jewish learning experiences. By engaging with peers and sharing knowledge, students help shape a thriving Jewish community on campus and beyond.
-
Jewish learning at Hunter Hillel extends beyond the classroom. As a commuter campus, our students remain deeply embedded in New York’s Jewish communities, applying their learning to strengthen synagogues, community organizations, and local initiatives. They bring their knowledge into real-world settings, ensuring that the next generation of Jewish leaders remains rooted in their communities for years to come.
Not Shabbat – Shabbat!
A Hunter Hillel Tradition:Not every student can make it to a traditional Friday night Shabbat experience—but that doesn’t mean they miss out on community, song, and connection. Not Shabbat Shabbat is Hunter Hillel’s signature student-led gathering that reimagines Shabbat, creating a meaningful, inclusive space for Jewish students to unplug, reflect, and celebrate Jewish life—on their own terms.
From shared meals and deep conversations to student-led learning and music, Not Shabbat Shabbat nurtures Jewish identity and leadership while strengthening the bonds between students. It also provides an embedded opportunity for each student to share their unique home experience – from Bukharian to Persian to Israeli, from Mizrahi to Ashkenazi and everything in between – enriching our shared Jewish journey.
Your support keeps the candles burning.
A gift today ensures that every Hunter student has access to Jewish community, whether through a traditional Shabbat or a unique, student-driven experience like Not Shabbat Shabbat.
